Protea Hotel Umhlanga - Marriot

New Conference Centre Lighting

The Protea Hotel Umhlanga – Marriott has recently built two new conference centers, a boardroom and a bar area, which was previously a restaurant. Magnet Energy was approached by the Hotel, whom subsequently tasked the division with a two-week deadline in which to design, manufacture, supply and install lighting, all in time for the Hotel’s first event.

Design Stage:
The initial stage in which a design is drawn, primarily involves a visit to site. An audit of the premises is conducted, wherein measurements and pictures are taken in order to compile an accurate report of the lighting requirements. At the crux of every design is the aim of providing the desired Lux levels for every room, as per the OHS Act as well as the correct ambience for a hotel environment. Furthermore, it is crucial to ensure that the design is as aesthetically pleasing as it is practical.

Installation Stage:
Once the design was approved by Hotel management, supply and installation took place. Installation commenced with a brief to the electrical contractors, wherein basic measurements, quantities of fittings and live contact points were discussed. The installation at the Protea Hotel Umhlanga - Marriott comprised of LED down lights as well as Magnet’s very own MARS P2000 units. The actual installation of the MARS units only took half a day for all the rooms and public areas to be completed, due to its easy installation stratification.

Post Implementation Stage:
After the completion of the installation, the results of the project far exceeded the client’s expectations. Although the focus for the project was to create the perfect ambience, the nett result included energy efficiency - and this was a great value add to the customer!

Despite the client’s request for a two-week delivery time, Magnet Energy was more than able to deliver timeously and effectively. Owing to the divisions’ excellent performance and exceptional service delivery, Magnet Energy has since been invited to remodel the lighting for the entire 8th floor of the Hotel, in addition to the two anticipated new conference centers, both scheduled for completion before the end of 2017.
